Vein in a Cirrhotic Patient with Portal Hypertension: Treatment by means of Coil Embolization

چکیده
anastomotic channels between the portal and systemic circulatory systems. The major such channel is the paraumbilical vein. Hemoperitoneum due to intraperitoneal variceal bleeding is an uncommon complication in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension. Our review of the literature brought to light 21 cases of intraperitoneal ruptured variceal bleeding (1, 2), though no such case has been reported in Korea. We describe a case in which this unusual intra-abdominal bleeding from a ruptured paraumbilical vein was treated by means of coil embolization. Case Report

Minocycline attenuates cirrhotic cardiomyopathy and portal hypertension in a rat model: Possible involvement of nitric oxide pathway
Objective(s): An increase in nitric oxide (NO) production has been reported in cirrhotic cardiomyopathy and, portal hypertension. Since minocycline has been shown to inhibit NO overproduction, we aimed to examine its role in a rat model of CCl4-induced cirrhotic cardiovascular complications. Materials and Methods: Portal pressure and inotropic responsiveness of isolated papillary muscles to is...
متن کاملNovel Rat Model of Repetitive Portal Venous Embolization Mimicking Human Non-Cirrhotic Idiopathic Portal Hypertension
BACKGROUND Non-cirrhotic idiopathic portal hypertension (NCIPH) is characterized by splenomegaly, anemia and portal hypertension, while liver function is preserved. However, no animal models have been established yet. This study assessed a rat model of NCIPH and characterized the hemodynamics, and compared it to human NCIPH. METHODS Portal pressure (PP) was measured invasively and coloured mi...
متن کاملCoil Embolization of Spontaneous Splenic Arteriovenous Fistula for Treatment of Portal Hypertension
BACKGROUND Splenic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a rare cause of portal hypertension which may manifest with abdominal pain, diarrhea, ascites, and/or hematemesis. Fistula formation may be traumatic or spontaneous. Eighty-six percent of spontaneous splenic AVFs occur in women, and 55% are associated with a preexisting splenic artery aneurysm. CASE REPORT A 64-year-old Caucasian female with unr...
متن کاملEffects of restoring portal flow with anticoagulation and partial splenorenal shunt embolization.
S pontaneous portosystemic shunt (PSS) from portal hypertension is associated with portal vein (PV) stasis and chronic hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Embolization of PSS is effective in select cases of refractory HE, but is relatively contraindicated in patients with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) (Table 1). This procedure redirects significant blood flow back through the PV and has been reported t...
متن کاملPercutaneous Access via the Recanalized Paraumbilical Vein for Varix Embolization in Seven Patients
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility of percutaneous access via the recanalized paraumbilical vein for varix embolization. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between July 2008 and Jan 2014, percutaneous access via the recanalized paraumbilical vein for varix embolization was attempted in seven patients with variceal bleeding. Paraumbilical vein puncture was performed under ultrasonographic guidance, foll...
